Cleaning up {{term}}, one page at a time.
[edit]

I am currently working on adding the language code to all instances of {{term}} that don't have the language code.

This is a huge cleanup project covering 21,616 pages. (except some pages where other people beat me to it!) I am being paid to do this, through Patreon and PayPal donations. Thank you very much for the people who have been supporting me! :)

The project

[edit]

Manually adding the correct language code to the 21,616 pages (as of 21/10/2015) where {{term}} lacks the code. (see Category:term cleanup)

This is intended to help the standardization of entries on Wiktionary. This project was chosen in the discussion Wiktionary:Beer parlour/2015/October#Boring cleanup work for money and later discussed again in Wiktionary:Beer parlour/2016/February#Resuming term cleanup.

What happens with the terms in the lack of a language code:

Near the beginning of this project, I also started replacing all these instances of {{term}} by {{m}}, which is equal in function but shorter and does require a language code. Eventually, it would be good if {{term}} was completely replaced by {{m}} or at least had the language code mandatory! I believe there was a consensus for mandatory language codes in the older discussion I linked directly above, which predates {{m}}.

FYI, most of the langcodes lacking langcodes up to now were English and Latin in etymologies, followed by Old English. And there's a good chunk of Finnish, too. Then French/Spanish, then maybe Italian.

Also, I'm fixing any small additional details in the edited entries when I can. Usually, this means:

  • Adding the affix/blend/compound template.
  • When there are glosses outside {{term}}, moving the gloss inside the template.
  • Adding {{head}} to entries lacking any headword template.
  • Fixing faulty syntax, like diff.
