Etymology
[edit]From the same stem as the verb kapāt (“to chop”) (q.v.): Proto-Baltic *kap- + -lis, from the o grade *kop- of Proto-Indo-European *kep-, *skep- “to cut, to slice (with an instrument).”[1]
