[edit]Named for type locality, Khmara Bay, in turn named after Soviet tractor driver Ivan Fedorovich Khmara (1936–1956) who died in that area of Soviet-operated Antarctica. The suffix -lite is from Ancient Greek λίθος (líthos, “stone”).
