  1. (archaic, rare) The art of making roads or other patha travelling, including the construction of bridges, canals, viaducts, etc.
    • 1842, Roswell Park, Pantology: Or, A Systematic Survey of Human Knowledge:
      We propose the term Viatecture , as nearly synonymous with Civil Engineering , to include the construction of roads and bridges , railroads , and canals , and water works ; and the improvement of rivers ' and harbors .
