Etymology

[edit]

Swedish spodiosit, from Ancient Greek σπόδιος (spódios, grey).

Noun

[edit]

spodiosite (plural spodiosites)

  1. (mineralogy) An orthorhombic-dipyramidal mineral containing calcium, fluorine, oxygen, and phosphorus.
    • 1911, Journal of the Chemical Society, volume 100, page 735:
The apatites, which are more soluble than the spodiosites, are formed on heating the latter to redness, hence spodiosites rarely occur in nature.
