[edit]From Middle High German rechenen, from Old High German rehhanōn (akin to Old Saxon *rekenen), from Proto-West Germanic *rekanōn. Compare Hunsrik rechne, Low German rekenen, Dutch rekenen and English reckon. Indirectly derived from Proto-Indo-European *h₃reǵ-.
