Finnish
[edit]Verb
[edit]saisinko
- first-person singular present conditional of saada (with enclitic -ko)
- Saisinko ruokalistan?
- Saisinko ruokalistan, kiitos?
- Could I have the menu, please?
Usage notes
[edit]When asking for something, conditional tense is regarded as more polite than indicative. The equivalent of "please" (olkaa hyvä) is relatively seldom used to finish the sentence. More likely a Finn would say kiitos (“thank you”) in the end, as if thanking in advance for the expected service.
