Usage notes
[edit]What is regarded as pikamatka depends very much on sport. In running it's anything less than 500 meters, whereas in cross-country skiing men's 15 kilometers is traditionally referred to as pikamatka. Since roughly year 2000 the organizers of skiing events have developed more audience-friendly, short-distance races called "sprint" in English, which are called sprintti or sprinttikisa in Finnish.
