[edit]Alteration of earlier alabandine, from Latin alabandina, from Alabanda, a town in Caria, a province of Asia Minor, where the mineral was found.

- (mineralogy) A type of garnet having a deep red color, inclining to purple, with the chemical formula Fe3Al2(SiO4)3.
