Noun

[edit]

onnittelukortti

  1. greeting card

Usage notes

[edit]

In Finnish onnittelukortti is much more frequently used than tervehdyskortti (greeting card), whereas in English "greeting card" is much more common than "congratulation card". The Finnish and English terms do not overlap however, however. Seasonal greeting cards, such as Christmas cards are not generally called onnittelukortti as seasons are not regarded as a reason to congratulate someone. Instead, they are named by the season, e.g. joulukortti (Christmas cards).
