Appendix:Algonquian and Iroquoian Swadesh lists

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

This is a Swadesh list of Algonquian and Iroquoian languages, specifically Ojibwe, Blackfoot, Mi'kmaq, Munsee, Unami, Mohawk, Cherokee, Nottoway, Erie and Wendat, compared with that of English.

Iroquoian languages are given for comparative purposes.

Algonquian:

  • Ojibwe (Chippewa, Anishinaabemowin) — actually a dialect continuum spanning From Saskatchewan to Quebec in Canada and the Great Lakes region of USA. The forms here are from one particular standardization, probably Chippewa (ciw), the version used in the United States.
  • Blackfoot — Montana (USA), Alberta (Canada)
  • Mi'kmaq (Micmac) — Maritime Provinces (Canada)
  • Lenape (Unami, Delaware) — Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, United States

Iroquoian:

  • Mohawk — New York, United States; Ontario and Québec, Canada; Iroquoian language
  • Cherokee (Tsalagi) — North Carolina and Oklahoma, United States; Iroquoian language
  • Nottoway (Cherunhakah) — Eastern Virginia; Iroquoian language
  • Erie — Northern Ohio, Northwestern Pennsylvania, and western New York, United States; Iroquoian language
  • Wendat - Oklahoma, United States; Quebec, Canada

Note: Additional vocabulary words have been added after word No. 207 ("name"), since the original lengths of Swadesh lists are either 100 or 207 words.
