Some conversion work

[edit]

@Octahedron80, Iudexvivorum, YURi, Alifshinobi, หมวดซาโต้, Wyang, Stephen G. Brown: Hi all. Calling on all active Thai editors and whoever may be interested. This category contains Thai terms, which need to be converted to use {{th-pron}}. I'm getting the phonemics from www.thai-language.com but they may not be always accurate or modern. There are a lot of entries here, so take your time but if a few people do it, we may be able to fix them all soon. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 07:29, 14 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Anatoli! I will try to help out. (Btw, I usually cross-check the pronunciation with Sealang to ensure it is correct.) Wyang (talk) 07:32, 14 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. It's a useful category made by Octahedron80 and all your modules and templates. I use that resource as well (Sealang) but it's missing IPA for Thai, unlike the Lao, Khmer and Burmese versions. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 07:41, 14 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hmm... I think it has IPA for most Thai words. e.g. นัก /nák/ (high tone), ตั่ง /tàŋ/ (low tone), ตัว /tua/ (mid tone is unmarked), เขา /kʰǎw/ (rising tone) and ลูก /lûuk/ (falling tone). The tone marks are similar to Paiboon. It has intonation information as well. :) Wyang (talk) 07:52, 14 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Ah, yes, many words but many don't have IPA, sorry. It's also interesting how the phonetic respellings work. BTW, they choose more common letters, e.g. ภู (puu) is respelled as พู (puu), also its homophone. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 07:57, 14 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
I see what you mean, it is indeed missing IPA for many compound words. Re ภู (puu): my fault, I was too excited about 'poo' ... thanks for fixing! Wyang (talk) 08:27, 14 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
This category only works when 'th-noun', 'th-verb', 'th-adj', etc already included in the pages. It won't work for common 'head' template that still used a lot. --Octahedron80 (talk) 03:29, 15 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
We can do a source code search and this gives an additional list of entries...: [1]. Wyang (talk) 12:55, 16 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Easier way is that put some tracking category in head template, [[Category:head template/{{{1}}}]], but it will affect every word and people won't be happy. --Octahedron80 (talk) 12:58, 16 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
For now, I extracted the list here: Wyang (talk) 13:08, 16 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Group by letter please? --Octahedron80 (talk) 13:21, 16 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
I had a try. It's probably incorrect... Wyang (talk) 13:51, 16 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Octahedron80, Wyang Perhaps {{head|th}} should be converted to proper Thai headword templates first. Somebody ran a bot to do it for Russian entries, I don't remember who :( . --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 07:20, 18 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
My bot can run the task. Does it need to vote? This is temporary ad hoc task. --Octahedron80 (talk) 08:21, 18 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
No. It doesn't. It will temporarily remove all manual transliterations but they will be restored with the correct and standard ones later.--Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 08:30, 18 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
I run the bot now. And there are many rounds to do. Also thanks to Wyang how to search. --Octahedron80 (talk) 03:43, 19 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! I can see this category is gradually becoming more populated. Wyang (talk) 03:46, 19 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Attention needed on this category

สวัสดีครับ Now that it's two years later, I would like to request attention on this category (Category:Thai terms without th-pron template) from everyone. We have collectively managed to reduce the number of entries to be fixed from 1000 or so to the current 64 (!!!). Most of these entries remaining are more difficult, many being loanwords that are beyond my ability. Some may need to be moved or deleted even. It would be great if we could all fix a few in the category by adding the pronunciations, and hopefully clean out this category soon. Thanks! Wyang (talk) 01:36, 3 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

I have cleaned some. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 09:49, 3 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
I've dealt with all the existing entries. Now, the entries remaining in the category are pending deletion/verification. --หมวดซาโต้ (talk) 14:37, 3 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
@หมวดซาโต้, Atitarev, GinGlaep Thank you so much! Wyang (talk) 23:42, 3 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
