Etymology

Borrowed from Sanskrit दुर्यशस् (duryaśas, literally ill fame), from दुर् (dur, ill) + यश (yaśa, fame). By surface analysis, ทุร +‎ ยศ (yót). Doublet of ทรยศ (tɔɔ-rá-yót). Cognate with Old Khmer dūrayasa, Modern Khmer ទុយ៌ស (turəyŭəh).
