From ทศ (tót, ten) +‎ กัณฐ์ (throat; neck); literally "ten necks" or "ten-necked"; ultimately made from Sanskrit दश (daśa, ten) and कण्ठ (kaṇṭha, neck). Compare with Telugu దశకంఠుడు (daśakaṇṭhuḍu) and Burmese ဒဿဂီရိ (da.ssa.giri.).
