Etymology

From ทรัพย์ (sáp, “possessions; wealth; valuable; etc”) +‎ สิน (sǐn, “possession; wealth; valuable; etc”).

The first sense was probably first used on 11 November 1923, when the first book of the Civil and Commercial Code of Thailand was promulgated.

1. (property law) property, as distinguished from ทรัพย์ (sáp).
   • 1992, พระราชบัญญัติให้ใช้บทบัญญัติบรรพ ๑ แห่งประมวลกฎหมายแพ่งและพาณิชย์ที่ได้ตรวจชำระใหม่ พ.ศ. ๒๕๓๕:

     มาตรา ๑๓๘ ทรัพย์สิน หมายความรวมทั้งทรัพย์และวัตถุไม่มีรูปร่างซึ่งอาจมีราคาและอาจถือเอาได้
