From Pali maṅgala (good; propitious; etc), from Sanskrit मङ्गल (maṅgala, idem) Cognate with Burmese မင်္ဂလာ (mangga.la); Old Khmer maṅgala, muṅgala, etc; Modern Khmer មង្គល (mŭəngkŭəl).
