Appendix:Cognates between Classical Mandaic and Classical Syriac

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

The following appendix compares cognates between Classical Mandaic and Classical Syriac, both of which are varieties of Aramaic. Below, the Mandaic vocabulary is representative of words typically used in the Ginza Rabba, while the Syriac vocabulary is representative of words typically used in the Peshitta New Testament.

The Syriac, Mandaic, and Hebrew alphabets all contain 22 letters that have one-to-one correspondences with each other. For consistency, this appendix uses the Latin transliteration that is typically used for Mandaic rather than Syriac.

This appendix lists the most frequently encountered words in Mandaean scriptures.
