From Aramaic גַּבְרָא (gaḇrā), from Proto-West Semitic *gabr-; compare Arabic جَبْر (jabr) and Hebrew גֶּבֶר (géver). Doublet of ܓܘܼܪܵܐ (gūrā, large).
