ܕܝܪܐ
Assyrian Neo-Aramaic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Aramaic דַּירָא (dayrā), related to the verb ܕܵܐܹܪ (dāˀēr, “to circle, dwell”) of the noun pattern 1a23ā; compare Arabic دَيْر (dayr) and Hebrew דִּיר (dír). The latter noun is an occupational noun derived from the former; hence compare Arabic دَيَّار (dayyār) and Hebrew דַּיָּר (dayár).
