Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from Classical Syriac, from Proto-Semitic *šamāy-; compare Hebrew שָׁמַיִם (shamáyim), Arabic سَمَاء (samāʔ) and Akkadian 𒀭 (šamû). The natively inherited form is the rare alternative form ܫܸܡܹܐ (šimmē).
