[edit]From Ancient Greek γέεννα (géenna) with the addition of the "h" from Hebrew גֵּיהִנֹּם (gêhinnōm), from גֵּיא הִנֹּם (gêʾ Hinnōm, “valley of Hinnom”). Compare Arabic جَهَنَّم (jahannam).
