[edit]Inherited from Aramaic נוּכְרָיָא (nuḵrāyā) from the above root related to “keeping away”; compare Hebrew נָכְרִי (nokhrí), Akkadian 𒉽 (nakīrum) and Arabic نَكِرَ (nakira, “to not know”).
