Hungarian terms with individual senses that are no longer in use and not usually recognized by native speakers, but still sometimes found in older literature.

To categorize into this category, use {{lb|hu|obsolete}} (template lb, not tlb), which should typically be placed next to the individual sense.

If the term itself, in all its senses, is obsolete, it should be placed in [[Category:Hungarian obsolete terms]] instead, using {{tlb|hu|obsolete}} (template tlb instead of lb), which should typically be placed next to the headword. If the term is merely a variant (alternative form) of a term in general use, it should be categorized in [[Category:Hungarian obsolete forms]] (using {{obsolete form of|hu|...}} or {{obsolete spelling of|hu|...}}).

Obsolete senses should be distinguished from archaic senses, which, although no longer in general use, are still occasionally used for special effect and are typically recognized by native speakers; and dated senses, which are merely unfashionable and anachronistic but still sometimes used, especially by older speakers.

The following label generates this category: obsoleteedit. To generate this category using this label, use {{lb|hu|label}}.

In accordance with the general guidelines, obsolete is meant to be used where a term or its specified meaning is not in use anymore, unknown even for educated speakers, with the exception of linguists specialized in the history of the language.

As a rule of thumb, with a view to the accepted periods in Hungarian language history, this label is to be used for terms and senses that are attested to have existed any time before the beginning of the Modern Hungarian period, 1772 but not afterwards. (Compare archaic and dated terms/senses in Hungarian.)

Due to this definition, these terms and meanings are not included in {{R:Nagyszotar}}[1] or in {{R:ErtSz}}. However, they are included in other etymological sources, especially {{R:UESz}} and/or {{R:Zaicz 2006}}/{{R:Zaicz 2021}}, or possibly {{R:RégiMagyarSzavak 2012}} (though without the specific period supplied in the latter).
