- “yǔn zhí jué zhōng” zhě, Yáo zhī suǒyǐ shòu Shùn yě. “rénxīn wéi wēi, dàoxīn wéi wēi, wéi jīng wéi yī, yǔn zhí jué zhōng” zhě, Shùn zhī suǒyǐ shòu Yǔ yě.
Yáo zhī yī yán, zhì yǐ, jìn yǐ! Ér shùn fù yì zhī yǐ sān yán zhě, zé suǒyǐ míng fū yáo zhī yī yán, bì rúshì érhòu kě shùjǐ yě. [Pinyin] - "Hold fast to the Mean" was what Yao taught to Shun. "Men's hearts are perilous, the Way's heart is trifling; be meticulous, be steadfast, hold fast to the Mean" was what Shun taught to Yu.
Yao's one saying was fundamental and complete! But Shun added three more sayings to it. The reason was to illuminate that one saying of Yao, [showing that] one must be such in order to approach [Yao's virtue].
堯之一言,至矣,盡矣!而舜復益之以三言者,則所以明夫堯之一言,必如是而後可庶幾也。 [Literary Chinese, trad.]
