From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *r/s-mwəj (to sleep; to dream) (STEDT). Cognate with Tibetan རྨི་བ (rmi ba, to dream), Tibetan རྨི་ལམ (rmi lam, dream), Burmese မွေ့ (mwe., to enjoy sleep).
