1. (relative) which; that (referring to things or a pair/group of people)

   Coordinate terms: ami, amelyik, aki

   Itt van a lemez, amelyet kértél. ― Here is the disc [that] you asked for.

Usage notes

• It can be used in reference to a thing or person supplied in the main clause by a noun. It is often replaced by ami in colloquial style.
• In case of a single person or a pet one feels emotionally attached to, aki is used instead.
• When highlighting one out of multiple potential things or persons, amelyik should be used.
• It cannot refer to a phrase without a noun (such as ez, az, mindez, mindaz, semmi etc. as pronouns on their own, rather than determiners of nouns): in such cases, ami must be used instead.
• It cannot refer to the entire situation described in the main clause (as opposed to a particular noun phrase): ami must be used instead. For example, He read the letter, which enraged me requires ami (the reason for my rage was the fact that he read the letter), while He read the letter that enraged me requires amely (the reason for my rage was the letter itself). In practice, however, ami occurs in colloquial style in the latter type, as well.
