Wiktionary:About Chinese/Cantonese

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

Wiktionary uses the Jyutping system to transcribe Guangzhou and Hong Kong dialects of Cantonese. Note that some sounds used for transcribing loanwords are not in standard Jyutping and are marked by an asterisk (*) in the following table. See Module:yue-pron for the code.

Romanisation considerations

[edit]

On Wiktionary, lazy pronunciations are not included, and high-falling and high-level variants of tone 1 are not differentiated.

Tone change is indicated by hyphen -:  / (joeng6-2). (Other websites may use an asterisk *.)

Tone numbers are indicated by superscript, such as by using or {{sup}}. Do not use superscript numbers in Unicode (¹²³⁴⁵⁶).
