Usage
[edit]This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from Challoner's revision of the Douay-Rheims Bible (1749, 1750). It can be used to create a link to online versions of the work at the Internet Archive:
- New Testament (1749).
- Old Testament (1750).
Parameters
[edit]The template takes the following parameters:
|1=or|tome=– mandatory: the volume quoted from,|tome=NTfor the New Testament,|tome=OTfor the Old Testament.|2=or|book=– mandatory: the name of the book of the Bible quoted from – see the table below for the full list.|3=or|chapter=– mandatory: the chapter of the book quoted, following the work.|4=,|verse=, or|verses=– mandatory: the verse(s) of the chapter quoted in Arabic numerals, following the work. If quoting a range of verses, separate the verse numbers with an en dash, like this:|verses=10–11.|5=or|page=, or|pages=– mandatory in some cases: the page number(s) to be quoted from. When quoting a range of pages, note the following:- Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this:
|pages=110–111. - You must also use
|pageref=to specify the page number that the template should link to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
- Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this:
- If this parameter is omitted, the template will not link to the online version of the work.
- Note that the page numbers in the Old Testament do not match up to the reference numbers.
|6=,|text=, or|passage=– the passage quoted from the Bible.|pageref=– mandatory: the page number in the URL, as the page numbers at the Internet Archive don't match up.|brackets=– use|brackets=onto surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
