[edit]Etymology 1
[edit]From Proto-Mordvinic *-ćə. Akin to Erzya -це (-će). Possibly further related to Komi-Permyak -дз (-dź, ordinal suffix), from Proto-Uralic *-ć, or borrowed from Proto-Turkic *-nč.[1]
According to an alternative hypothesis, derived from the demonstrative pronoun *śe (“that”); compare -се (-śe) in archaic Erzya васенсе (vaśeńśe).
