[edit]Inherited from Common Turkic *čakïr (“light gray, grayish blue (of eyes)”). Cognate with Karakhanid چَاقِرْ (čaqır, “blue or gray of eyes”), Ottoman Turkish چاقر (çakır, “light blue”), Kazakh шағыр (şağyr) and Bashkir шағыр (şağır, “whitish”).
