Glyph origin

[edit]

Phono-semantic compound (形聲形声, OC *mu) : phonetic (OC *moʔ, *mos) + semantic (metal).

Etymology

[edit]

Possibly Austroasiatic; compare Mon ဒမှော် (həmok, wide hat) and Khmer មួក (muək) (Schuessler, 2007), both from Proto-Mon-Khmer *muuk ~ muək (hat).

Possibly related to (OC *muːɡs) (ibid.). See there for more.
