Etymology

Phono-semantic matching of a corrupted form of Sanskrit वैडूर्य (vaiḍūrya, cat's-eye; jewel; lapis lazuli), Pali veḷuriya (lapis lazuli). Related to 吠瑠璃 (fèiliúlí), 琉璃 (liúlí).
