1. (neologism, derogatory) alleged personnel employed by the communist government, who supposedly receive 50 cents for every pro-government post they post on the internet; an avid supporter of the communist government

     “wǔmáodǎng” zhǐ zhèngfǔ huāqián pìnqǐng de wǎngshàng pínglùnyuán, zuòyòng shì jiāng wǎngshàng yúlùn cháo yǒulì yú guójiā zhèngcè de fāngxiàng yǐndǎo. Ér nàxiē jíshǐ méiyǒu shōuqián yě gēsòng dǎng de rén, yǒushí jiù bèi chēngwèi “zìqiánwǔ”. [Pinyin]

     “50-centers” are commenters that the government has hired to steer online discussion in favor of state policies. Those who praise the party even without being paid are sometimes called “volunteer 50-centers.”
