Etymology

    Inherited from Prakrit 𑀮𑁂𑀇 (lei), adapted from 𑀮𑀳𑀇 (lahaï) by analogy with 𑀤𑁂𑀇 (dei, give) (whence देना (denā, to give)), 𑀡𑁂𑀇 (ṇei, take),[1][2] from Sanskrit लभते (labhate). Cognate with Nepali लिनु (linu).

      baiṅk se ŕṇ lenā paṛegā.
      I'll have to take a loan from the bank.
      आज वह स्कूल से छुट्टी लेना चाहता है
      āj vah skūl se chuṭṭī lenā cāhtā hai.
      He wants to take a holiday from school today.
