Etymology

Most likely from Old Hindi उहु (uhu), उहुं (uhuṃ), from Apabhramsa ओहु (ohu), from Prakrit 𑀅𑀳𑁄 (aho), from Sanskrit असौ (asáu, that). The inflected forms are formed by analogy with its proximal counterpart यह (ya).

वो (vo) is the colloquial distal demonstrative pronoun. It is grammatically both singular and plural and it can be used with both the third person singular and third person plural conjugations. In colloquial speech and writing, it replaces both the singular distal demonstrative pronoun वह (vah) and the plural and formal distal demonstrative pronoun वे (ve).
