Borrowed from Classical Persian عَوْرَت (awrat, woman, wife, genitals, nudity), from Arabic عَوْرَة (ʕawra, genitals; nudity). First attested in c. 1420 as Old Hindi औरत (aurata)/عَورَت ('vrt).
