Borrowed from Arabic خَتْم (ḵatm), verbal noun of خَتَمَ (ḵatama, to end). Compare Bengali খৎম (khotm), Punjabi ਖ਼ਤਮ (xatam), Gujarati ખતમ (khatam), Odia ଖତମ (khatama).
