Etymology

Learned borrowing from Koine Greek ἀπαίσιος (apaísios, ominous, sinister),[1] from ἀπό (apó, from) + αἴσιος (aísios, favorable, auspicious); see αίσιος (aísios) for the latter.[2][3]
