[edit]From Old Galician-Portuguese, from Vulgar Latin *trānsfrīcāre, from fricō, or either from *transfaecare, from faex. Doublet of traficar, a borrowing from Italian.
Cognate with Portuguese trasfegar, Spanish trasegar, Catalan trafegar, Italian trafficare, English traffic.
