[edit]Etymology
[edit]Element chèng is likely a blend of Vietnamese chời (“Eye-dialect spelling of trời (“sky, heaven”)”) and mèng, which is possibly from Khmer មេឃ (meik, “sky”),[1] in the interjections mèng ơi and mèng đéc ơi.
Element đéc, also seen in mèng đéc ơi, is possibly from Khmer ដី (dəy, “earth”).[1]
