[edit]Inherited from Old Polish bieżeć, from Proto-Slavic *běžàti, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *bēˀgjā́ˀtei, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰégʷ-y-eh₂-ti, innovative denominative present of *bʰegʷ- (“to flee, run”). Cognate with Lithuanian bėgióti.
