[edit]Inherited from Old Polish bawić, from Proto-Slavic *bàviti (“to linger”), from Proto-Balto-Slavic *bāwˀitei?, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰowH-éye-ti, causative of *bʰuH- (“to become”). Cognate to Sanskrit भावयति (bhāváyati).
