Usage

This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from Philip Miller's work The Gardeners Dictionary (2nd edition, 1733–1740, 2 volumes); the 1st edition (1731) is not currently available online. It can be used to create a link to online versions of the work at Google Books:

• Volume I (archived at the Internet Archive).
• Volume II (archived at the Internet Archive).

Parameters

The template takes the following parameters:

• |1= or |volume= – mandatory: the volume number quoted from in uppercase Roman numerals, either |volume=I or |volume=II.
• |2= or |entry= – mandatory: the entry quoted from, which will be displayed fully capitalized as in the work. To apply a different wikitext formatting, specify |noformat=yes or |noformat=1. If this parameter is omitted, the template uses the name of the Wiktionary entry.
• |3= or |page= – mandatory in some cases: as the work is not paginated, use |3= or |page= to specify the "page number" assigned by Google Books to the URL of the webpage to be linked to. For example, if the URL is https://books.google.com/books?id=IEMdGBgqjmcC&pg=PP31 specify |page=31. This information must be specified to have the template link to an online version of the work.
• |column= or |columns= – the column number(s) quoted from, either |column=1 or |column=2. If quoting from both columns, either omit this parameter or specify |columns=1–2 with an en dash between the numbers.
• |4=, |text=, or |passage= – a passage to be quoted from the work.
• |footer= – a comment on the passage quoted.
• |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
