Etymology

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish ـكچ (-gaç, -geç) and sometimes ـكج (-gac, -gec), from Proto-Turkic *-gač, *-geč. In many cases in Modern Turkish the "g" falls off and the suffix presents as -aç/-eç.[1]

    yüz- (to swim) + ‎-geç → ‎yüzgeç (fin, flipper)
    süz- (to strain, to filter) + ‎-geç → ‎süzgeç (filter, sieve)
    kıs- (to pinch, to tighten) + ‎-kaç → ‎kıskaç (clamp, pincers, claw)
    solu- (to breathe) + ‎-(n)gaç → ‎solungaç (gill)
    bakır (copper) + ‎-aç → ‎bakraç (a small copper bucket)
    ayır- (to separate) + ‎-aç → ‎ayraç (separator, bookmark)
