[edit]Phono-semantic compound (形聲 / 形声, OC *laːɡ) : semantic 糸 (“silk”) + phonetic 睪 (OC *neb, *laːɡ, *kuː).
Etymology
[edit]Same word as 驛 (OC *laːɡ, “posthorse; relay station”), 譯 (OC *laːɡ, “to translate”), 懌 (OC *laːɡ, “relaxed; pleased”), 斁 (OC *laːɡ, “to be tired of”) (Schuessler, 2007). Also related to 釋 (OC *hljaɡ, “to set free; to explain”), 赦 (OC *hljaɡs, “to let go; to pardon”) (Schuessler, 2007).
