[edit]Learned borrowing from Koine Greek σχέδιον (skhédion), neuter form of σχέδιος (skhédios, “near, close; temporary”); in the modern sense of "design, draft", semantic loan from Italian schizzo (“rough sketch”) (though etymologically unrelated, despite similar phonetics and semantics).
