Etymology
[edit]Inherited from the mediaeval Byzantine Greek ξυπνῶ (xupnô), from Koine Greek ἐξυπνῶ (exupnô), from Ancient Greek ἐξ (ex, “out”) and ὕπνος (húpnos, “sleep”). Also see ἔξυπνος (éxupnos).
