Etymology

[edit]

First attested in 1837. Back-formation from ivadék (offspring) with the suffix -ar, by mistaken rebracketing of the latter from words like vihar and agyar. (See also jogar and szivar coined with the same rebracketing.) Created during the Hungarian language reform, which took place in the 18th–19th centuries.[1]
