Rhymes:Hungarian/ik

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

Pronunciation

[edit]
  • [-ik]

Notes

[edit]

Dictionary forms of -ik verbs are sorted by the vowel and consonant sequence preceding this ending (e.g. dolgozik is on page Rhymes:Hungarian/ozik), for the following reasons:

  • Their conjugation is nearly identical to verbs without the -ik ending (e.g. gondoz), with the exception of this dictionary form (the 3rd-person singular present-tense indefinite) and (often) the 1st-person singular present-tense indefinite form (e.g. gondozok vs. dolgozom, although dolgozok also occurs in colloquial speech). As such, -ozik rhymes can be seen as subtypes of -oz rhymes.
  • There are thousands of verbs in Hungarian with the -ik ending so they need some further categorization in any case.
  • The remaining -ik words are nouns, adjectives, pronouns, and numerals, and their declension types can be compared meaningfully by excluding the -ik verbs.
