Glyph origin

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

From (OC *sʰuːds, “to dip into liquid, to plunge, to temper, to dye, etc.”), as kingfishers dive underwater to catch fish (Schuessler, 2007).

The "blue-green, cyan" > "bright" senses are because of the kingfishers' plumages.
